Maximum No. of Emission Lines
Maximum number of emission lines when the exited from
n=a to n=b
Step 1: find the Differences between them i.e (a-b)
step 2: Take difference as summation ∑(a-b)
e.g ∑2=2+1=3
∑5=5+4+3+2+1=15
step 3: you will get Maximum number of Emission Lines
Let us take example to understand more
✑ what is maximum number of emission lines when the exited electrons of hydrogen atoms drops from
1. n=9 to n=2
Trick:
✑ Differences =9-2 =7
✑Take as ∑7 i.e 7+6+5+4+3+2+1=28
✑ Hence, Number of Emission lines =28
2.n=5 to n=1
Trick:
✑ Differences =5-1 =4
✑Take as ∑4 i.e 4+3+2+1=10
✑ Hence, Number of Emission lines =10
3. n=6 to ground level
Trick:
ground level i.e n=1
✑ Differences =6-1 =5
✑Take as ∑5 i.e 5+4+3+2+1=15
✑ Hence, Number of Emission lines =15
